Peter Fri

Peter Frie

Peter Frie, born in Lysekil in 1947, lives and works in Båstad and Thailand. He works within one of the oldest traditions, painting in oil on canvas. He repeats his motifs again and again with small variations in endless series. They are all vast, timeless landscapes, like the scenography of dreams, yet without any trace of people. With technical skill, Peter Frie conveys the silence and stillness that have become scarce in a confused and ever-changing world.

The memories of the happy moments of my childhood in nature with my mother have etched themselves deeply into me. Time stood still beneath the large trees, in the clearing, on the sunlit meadow, or along the narrow path. Moments that made me realize the immense power and significance of nature. To see nature’s healing ability and its striving to awaken and flourish again and again, only to slowly fade away and make room for something new. I am inspired by all of this in my artistic practice and am not significantly influenced by the trends of contemporary art.

Peter Frie is represented in many public and private collections, for example at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, Kiasma in Finland, Malmö Art Museum, Sven-Harry’s Art Museum, the City of Stockholm, the Haggerty Museum of Art, and the Caldic Museum in Rotterdam. Peter Frie was awarded the Finnish prize ARS Fennica Award in 1998.
